THEY FOUGHT FOR 2.5 HOURS
Oktay, who has been continuing the profession he inherited from his father for 35 years, raced against time with his friends to bring the giant swordfish, weighing approximately 115 kilograms and measuring 1.5 meters in length, onto the boat. The fishermen, who struggled for two and a half hours since the beginning of the catch, managed to pull the swordfish, known for its strong structure and resistance, onto the boat after a great effort.
4 PEOPLE STRUGGLED TO CARRY IT, SOLD FOR 65 THOUSAND TL
When brought to the shore, the giant fish could only be carried with the help of four people, and it was recorded as one of the most remarkable catches in the region in recent years due to its size and weight. The giant swordfish was later sold in İzmir to a business for a total of 65 thousand TL at a price of 500 TL per kilogram.
"HAPPENS ONCE OR TWICE A YEAR"
Mustafa Oktay, who has been fishing for about 35 years, stated, "We fish professionally in Dörtyol, Hatay. The swordfish is a predatory fish and quite valuable. It is an exceptional species that can be encountered once or twice a year. We managed to bring it onto the boat after struggling together for two and a half hours. We sent it wholesale to restaurants in İzmir. It weighed a total of 115 kilos and we sold it for approximately 65 thousand TL. Our profession is a family trade; we have been in this business for years. From time to time, we go fishing on our boats and we can encounter such large catches."
