The body of 49-year-old Ahmet Şahin, who went missing 25 days ago in Istanbul, was found covered with branches in a wooded area in Arnavutköy; it was determined that Şahin was killed by five bullets, and it was revealed that he was murdered by his sister-in-law's husband, Muzaffer A., due to a dispute over online gambling debts. The suspect confessed to the murder and admitted that after the incident, he used the victim's credit card to buy gold worth 242,000 lira, broke the victim's phone in Silivri, and sent messages to the victim's family to get money.
It has been revealed that Ahmet Şahin (49), who went missing 25 days ago in Istanbul, was murdered. Şahin's body was found covered with bushes in a wooded area in Arnavutköy. The husband of his sister-in-law, identified as the perpetrator of the incident, Muzaffer A., has been taken into custody. In his statement to the police, Muzaffer A., who is also known to be a private security officer, confessed to his crime, saying, "He owed me money because of online gambling. I was fired from my job because of him. On the day of the incident, he said he would give me the money again. We had an argument. I got angry; I don't exactly remember what I did." It was also determined that after the incident, the suspect used Ahmet Şahin's credit card to buy gold, and within the same day, he exchanged the gold for cash, and he broke the victim's phone in Silivri.
On Monday, January 26, in Arnavutköy, Beyza Şahin reported to the police that they had not heard from her father for 2 days. Beyza Şahin stated that messages were sent to her from her father's phone. Following the instructions in these messages, she said they handed over 150,000 lira in cash to Muzaffer A. together. Beyza Şahin noted that the messages sent from the phone indicated that her father was going to Greece, and then the phone was turned off. In the investigation initiated by the police, the statement of Muzaffer A., the husband of Ahmet Şahin's sister-in-law, who was sought as missing, was taken. Muzaffer A., who stated that he last saw Ahmet Şahin on the day he gave him money and that he had not seen him for a long time, was released.
POLICE'S DILIGENT WORK REVEALED THE MURDER
In the investigation conducted by the Missing Persons Bureau, the police began to examine Ahmet Şahin's mobile phone calls. They determined that Ahmet Şahin frequently contacted Muzaffer A. on Saturday, January 24. Following this, the teams examining security camera footage found that Ahmet Şahin and Muzaffer A. went to Arnavutköy in a car around 9:00 AM and that Muzaffer A. left Arnavutköy alone by car at 1:42 PM.
IT WAS DETERMINED THAT HE WAS KILLED WITH 5 BULLETS
Following this development, the police began to examine all security cameras in the area and the HTS records of the suspect's mobile phone. As a result of narrowed base studies, it was determined that the incident occurred near Yeniköy Cemetery. During searches in the area, Ahmet Şahin's body was found in a wooded area across from Yeniköy Cemetery. It was determined that the body was thrown into the wooded area and that efforts were made to hide it by covering it with branches. The body, which had been partially damaged by wild animals, was taken to the Forensic Medicine Institute Morgue. DNA analysis confirmed that the body belonged to Ahmet Şahin. It was also revealed that Ahmet Şahin died as a result of 5 bullets hitting his body.
THEY STARTED TO FOLLOW HIS MOTHER TO CATCH THE SUSPECT
Following this development, the police took action to capture Muzaffer A. Police teams began to follow his mother, F. Ş., to reach Muzaffer A., who had turned off his mobile phone. Mother F. Ş. started waiting in a park during iftar time last night. After a while, Muzaffer A. came to his mother F. Ş. and was taken into custody in the park. It was determined that Muzaffer A. had asked his mother for new clothes and went to the park to get them.
HE PURCHASED GOLD WITH A CREDIT CARD
In the investigation conducted by the Missing Persons Bureau regarding the incident, it was determined that after the incident, Muzaffer A. first went to Bahçelievler with the credit card he took from Ahmet Şahin and purchased gold worth 242,000 lira from a jeweler there. It was also revealed that Muzaffer A. took the gold he purchased the same day to another jeweler in Zeytinburnu to exchange it.
"THE SUSPECT BORROWED MONEY FROM ME AND DID NOT PAY IT BACK"
In his statement at the Missing Persons Bureau, Muzaffer A. confessed to his crime, claiming that Ahmet Şahin borrowed approximately 3 million lira from him because he was playing online gambling but never paid it back. He also mentioned that he was fired from his job because he borrowed money from his colleagues to lend to Ahmet Şahin and could not pay it back. Muzaffer A. said, "On the day of the incident, he told me he would pay back his debt. We got into the car together around 6:00 AM. When he said the money would come to Arnavutköy, we went that way. We waited around for a while; however, no one came. Later, when he said the money would be brought to Yeniköy Cemetery, we headed that way."
"A FIGHT BROKE OUT BETWEEN US, AND THE GUN FIRED SEVERAL TIMES"
Muzaffer A. stated that despite waiting for a while at Yeniköy Cemetery in Arnavutköy, when the money did not arrive, an argument broke out between them. "He started yelling at me. At that moment, he had also drawn his gun from his waist. There was a struggle between us. During this time, the gun fired several times. I don't remember the exact number. I lost my temper. When I came to my senses, I realized he was dead. I left the body by the roadside, covered it with bushes, and ran away from there," he said.
"I BROKE AND DISCARDED HIS PHONE"
In his statement to the police, Muzaffer A. confessed to buying gold with the credit card and then exchanging it. "To destroy his phone, I took a taxi through an app to Silivri. I waited for the taxi there, broke the phone behind a gas station, and then returned. After that, I started living my normal life," he was reported to have said.
POLICE OBTAINED SECURITY CAMERA FOOTAGE RELATED TO THE INCIDENT
The Missing Persons Bureau obtained security camera footage showing the moments when the suspect sold and exchanged the gold. The moments when the suspect broke the phone of the person he killed were also captured by another security camera. The suspect, whose procedures were completed at the Public Order Branch, was sent to Gaziosmanpaşa Courthouse.
