It has been reported that the number of deaths due to high temperatures in Tokyo, the capital of Japan, has risen to 248. It is stated that most of the deceased were elderly and lived alone, and the importance of using air conditioning was emphasized in the warnings.

The increasing temperature due to global climate change has also affected Japan. The Medical Examination Office affiliated with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government reported that the number of deaths due to extreme heat has reached 248 in the data it announced regarding the casualties caused by excessive heat.

"PLEASE USE AIR CONDITIONING" WARNING ISSUED

In the investigations, it was determined that the deceased were between the ages of 40-90 and that their homes or workplaces did not have air conditioning or were not actively used. In the statement of the office, it was stated that "the deceased are generally elderly and living alone, which makes it difficult for them to notice changes around them, and symptoms can become much more severe."

In the statement encouraging the use of air conditioning, it was stated that "death due to heatstroke can be prevented. Therefore, please use air conditioning on hot days."

251 PEOPLE LOST THEIR LIVES IN 2022

The Social Welfare and Public Health Office affiliated with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government had announced on July 9th that 6 people had died due to heatstroke. According to the state television NHK, a total of 251 people lost their lives in Tokyo in 2022 due to high temperatures.
