White House spokesperson Leavitt answered questions from reporters regarding the agenda related to Iran during a press briefing.
In response to a journalist's question about whether the Trump administration had a plan to arm Kurdish forces to encourage a popular uprising in Iran, Leavitt said, "The President has had many discussions with partners, allies, and leaders in the Middle East. He has met with Kurdish leaders regarding our base in northern Iraq. However, reports claiming that the President approved such a plan are completely false and should not be written that way."
"CLAIM THAT OPPOSITION FORCES WILL BE ARMED"
U.S. officials speaking to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) indicated that President Donald Trump is open to supporting groups ready to arm themselves to overthrow the regime in Iran, noting that these groups could become ground forces for the U.S. in Iran.
American CNN television also claimed, based on U.S. sources, that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) is attempting to arm Kurdish opposition groups in the country to incite an uprising in Iran.
These sources suggested that the U.S. administration is actively engaged in discussions about providing military support to Iranian opposition groups and representatives of the Iranian Kurdish opposition who have sought refuge in the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) of Iraq.
