Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that the project works for the Nurdağı-Kahramanmaraş high-speed train line are ongoing and that this line will increase the industrial and logistics capacity in the region.
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that the project works for the 49-kilometer-long Nurdağı-Kahramanmaraş High-Speed Train Line are ongoing. Uraloğlu made a written statement regarding the high-speed train line that will start from the Nurdağı district of Gaziantep and extend to Kahramanmaraş. Stating that the line in question will be connected to the planned 235-kilometer Malatya-Narlı-Nurdağı High-Speed Train Project, Uraloğlu said, "We are continuing the project works for the Nurdağı-Kahramanmaraş high-speed train connection, which we plan to be a total of 49 kilometers long. After completing the project works, we aim to include it in the investment program and start the construction works."
"SUITABLE FOR A OPERATING SPEED OF 200 KILOMETERS PER HOUR"
Uraloğlu pointed out that the line will be constructed in a way suitable for passenger and freight transportation and that a significant increase in capacity will be achieved, stating: "With the line designed to be suitable for an operating speed of 200 kilometers per hour, double-track, electric, and signaled, we aim to bring Kahramanmaraş's production potential to wider markets and elevate the city to a stronger position in Turkey's logistics network. We aim to integrate Kahramanmaraş with the Eastern Mediterranean ports and main trade corridors through the connection of the Mersin-Adana-Osmaniye-Gaziantep High-Speed Train Line via Nurdağı."
"WE WILL STRENGTHEN THE INDUSTRY, AGRICULTURE, AND LOGISTICS SECTORS"
Uraloğlu emphasized that the goal is to transport many products, especially textiles, yarns, food, and construction materials produced in the Organized Industrial Zones of Kahramanmaraş to the ports of Mersin and İskenderun by rail, noting that this will reduce logistics costs and increase the competitiveness of regional industrialists. Uraloğlu mentioned that iron and chrome ores produced in the region will be transported to İskenderun Port by rail and taken to international markets, stating that Kahramanmaraş will become one of the collection, transfer, and distribution centers between Eastern Anatolia, the Mediterranean, and Southeastern Anatolia.
"THE LINE WILL DIRECTLY AFFECT THE REGION'S PRODUCTION AND EXPORT CAPACITY"
Uraloğlu emphasized that the line will also directly affect the regional production and export capacity, stating: "By strengthening the railway infrastructure, we will empower the industry, agriculture, and logistics sectors. We will implement a project that will provide strong contributions to employment and regional development in the long term. With the strengthening of the railway, heavy vehicle traffic on the roads will also decrease. Thus, while the burden on urban and regional transportation will lighten, the strengthened logistics infrastructure of Kahramanmaraş will also attract new industrial investments and warehouse-logistics facilities to the city."
