Key Party Central Executive Board Member Murat Uçar apologized after his controversial remarks.

Key Party Central Executive Board Member Murat Uçar apologized after his controversial remarks.

22.11.2024 15:41

Murat Uçar, a member of the Central Executive Board of the Key Party, stated at his party's organizational meeting held in Istanbul, "We are against the presidential government system, but when conditions change tomorrow and we find ourselves on the other side of the table, will we be able to give up that comfort, those palaces, that extravagance?" Uçar emphasized on his social media account that his words were misunderstood and apologized. The party's chairman, Yavuz Ağıralioğlu, has remained silent on the matter.

Under the leadership of Yavuz Ağıralioğlu, Murat Uçar, a member of the Central Executive Board of the Key Party, which was established last month, made controversial statements at the organizational meeting held in Bağcılar, Istanbul. Uçar, who stated that they are currently against the presidential government system, said, "However, when conditions change tomorrow, will we be able to give up that comfort, those palaces, that extravagance when we move to the other side of the table?"

APOLOGIZED

Murat Uçar, who became the focus of reactions due to his speech, made a written statement. In his statement, Uçar said, "It is clear that I did not have an expression like 'I am not sure' as some media outlets have reported. However, the fact that my words have given rise to misunderstanding is also a mistake that stands before us. On this occasion, I sincerely apologize to our esteemed nation, whom we aspire to serve, and to our party members," he stated.

"IT WAS A CRITICISM"

In the continuation of Uçar's published statement, the following expressions were included:

"On November 17, 2024, at a meeting I attended in the Ataşehir district, I used the exact expressions below without any omissions and without adding words I did not use: 'Let's answer the question then, let's see what we will say when we are there. I always respond a bit humorously regarding the Presidential Government System. Now, we are against it while we are here, in opposition, but let's see if our Chairman and we can move to the other side of the table, will we be able to give up that comfort, that extravagance, those palaces? These are not things that can be easily abandoned. If it were possible, our President would not endure this trouble and suffering today. A man for his nation, look, he has died, he has become unable to stand. Therefore, these are not easy matters, but with God's permission, whichever form of governance is correct for this country, our Chairman will decide by consulting our nation.' The point I wanted to convey with my words was merely a criticism of the dizzying power and authority that the Presidential Government System grants to one person and his circle, and how this burden greatly weighs on a person's soul and diverts them from their initial claims regarding the political journey of the AK Party and the esteemed president.

In this context, it is clear that I did not have an expression like 'I am not sure' as reported by some media outlets. However, the fact that my words have given rise to misunderstanding is also a mistake that stands before us. When I evaluate all these incidents together, I concluded that I should apologize to our nation and our party members for the 'carelessness that could lead to misunderstanding.' On this occasion, I sincerely apologize to our esteemed nation, whom we aspire to serve, and to our party members."

AĞIRALIOĞLU REMAINED SILENT

It was also noteworthy that the Chairman Yavuz Ağıralioğlu remained silent regarding Uçar's statements.
