Journalist Levent Gültekin was detained on the charge of "publicly disseminating misleading information" due to statements he made during a program on his YouTube channel, and was released with a travel ban abroad. Gültekin recounted his experiences during the detention process.

"THEY COULDN'T TELL ME WHAT I WAS ACCUSED OF"

In a statement regarding his detention, Gültekin noted that he was shown the transcript of the entire broadcast from December 17 at the police station. He reported asking which statements he was being accused of, saying, "They put the transcript of the entire broadcast from December 17 in front of me. I asked which sentence it was from, and they said they didn't know. I said in my statement, 'I cannot defend myself because I do not know which sentence I am being accused of.'"

"I DID NOT APPEAR BEFORE THE PROSECUTOR AND JUDGE"

Gültekin stated that he was taken to the prosecutor's office in the morning, saying, "They took me to the prosecutor in the morning. The prosecutor referred me to court with a travel ban without taking my statement. The court also released me with a travel ban without taking my statement. I did not see the prosecutor or the judge, and I still have not been able to learn what I am being accused of. I also do not know why I cannot travel abroad."

"WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ME?"

Describing his experiences in the detention center, Gültekin mentioned that he asked himself, "Why are you doing this to me?" He said, "While sitting in the detention center, I had this feeling by myself. Why are you doing this to me? I have no enmity; I am defending the rights of teachers whose rights have been taken away and the young people whose lives have turned into hell due to incompetence."
