The death toll from the events following the killing of El Mencho, the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel in Mexico, has risen to 73. While security measures are being increased in the country, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum addressed the security of Guadalajara, the city that will host the 2026 World Cup, stating, "All guarantees are in place, there is no risk."
The Mexican press reported that the number of people who lost their lives in the violent incidents following the killing of Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) leader El Mencho on February 22 has risen to 73.
SECURITY MEASURES INCREASED
Mexico's Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar Garcia Harfuch, stated that security measures have been increased and called on the public to remain calm. Harfuch noted that most of the roads have been reopened and life across the country has begun to return to normal.
SHEINBAUM: NO SECURITY RISK IN THE COUNTRY
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, in her speech at the daily press conference at the National Palace, reported that the security forces are working with all their might to restore normalcy. Sheinbaum referred to the security of Guadalajara, which will host the 2026 World Cup, stating, "All guarantees are in place, there is no risk."
