French President Emmanuel Macron made a statement on his social media account regarding the phone call he had with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
MACRON REQUESTED THE RELEASE OF FRENCH DETAINEES
Macron said, "I spoke on the phone today with the Iranian President. During the conversation, I conveyed messages regarding the release of our detained citizens Cecile Kohler and Jacques Paris, the protection of our citizens and facilities that should not be subjected to any threats in Iran, adherence to the ceasefire aimed at ensuring peace in the region, returning to the table to continue discussions on issues related to ballistic and nuclear missiles, supporting the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), and the need for the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to quickly resume its work in Iran to ensure full transparency."
The French President stated, "In the coming days, I will continue my efforts to achieve these goals."
WHAT HAPPENED?
Cecile Kohler and Jacques Paris have been detained in Iran since May 2022 on charges of espionage. Kohler and Paris's families believe their relatives are being held in Evin Prison in Tehran, the capital of Iran. After Israel struck the mentioned prison on June 23 during its attacks on Iran, the families expressed concern for their missing relatives and requested evidence from Iranian authorities regarding their well-being.
