Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro released a video of himself driving through the streets of the capital to break the perception that he is "afraid" following the U.S. military activity in the region and the $50 million bounty placed on his head. Maduro emphasized that he is still in office, stating, "Venezuela is strong; no threat can intimidate us."
While discussions continue regarding the U.S. military buildup in the region and the $50 million reward placed on U.S. President Donald Trump, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro delivered an unexpected message to the public.
AT THE WHEEL IN THE CAPITAL'S STREETS
In an effort to dispel claims that he is "hiding" and "afraid," Maduro shared a video on his social media accounts showing him driving around in a vehicle he was using in the streets of the capital, Caracas.
"LET THE PARTY BEGIN"
In the footage shared on state television and his social media accounts, Maduro conveyed the message that he is not bothered by U.S. pressures by showing himself comfortably driving a car on the streets of Caracas. In the video, accompanied by his security team, Maduro is seen smiling at the camera and saying, "Let's go party."
TENSION REMAINS HIGH IN THE REGION
The Washington administration announced a $50 million reward for Maduro's prosecution on charges of "narcoterrorism"; in recent weeks, the U.S. military buildup in the Caribbean region has also been deemed a "threat" by Caracas.
This video shared by Maduro is interpreted as an effort to boost the morale of his supporters within the country and as a message to the international community that he is "safe and in control."
"I AM ON DUTY"
In the message accompanying the video, Maduro stated:
"Venezuela is strong. No threat can intimidate us. Together with my people, I am on duty."
