According to a claim by the Washington Post, it has been suggested that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro might prefer Turkey for exile in the event of a possible overthrow. The report stated that Maduro trusts President Erdoğan and sees Turkey as a "perfect place" for himself.
As tensions rise between the US and Venezuela, an analysis published in the Washington Post has created a significant stir in the international arena. The newspaper claimed that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro could seek refuge in Turkey if he is removed from office or overthrown.
In the article titled "Maduro's ties to Turkey could facilitate a potential exile," an unnamed official was quoted as saying that a possible exile agreement for Maduro in Turkey could also include guarantees that he would not be returned to the US.
"TURKEY IS A PERFECT PLACE FOR HIM"
A source speaking to the Washington Post stated that Maduro sees Turkey as a safe option, expressing: "Turkey is a perfect place for him. Maduro trusts Erdoğan, and Erdoğan has a good relationship with Trump. People are thinking about this and working on it."
US-VENEZUELA TENSION ESCALATES
Recently, the US had added the Cartel de los Soles, which it claims is run by Maduro and senior Venezuelan officials, to its Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTO) list. Venezuela described this move as a pretext for intervention in the country. Another development that heightened tensions was the US sending the USS Gerald R. Ford, one of the world's largest aircraft carriers, and its strike group to the Latin America region. In response, Maduro announced that he had mobilized a militia force of 4.5 million people in the country and that they were prepared for a possible attack.
