After the arrest and removal of Adalar Mayor Ali Ercan Akpolat as part of a bribery investigation, an election was held for an acting mayor in the municipality. In the vote, CHP's candidate Medine Pamuk received 5 out of 7 votes and was elected as the acting Mayor of Adalar.
In the latest operation targeting CHP municipalities, Adalar Mayor Ali Ercan Akpolat, who was detained on the morning of June 19, along with deputy mayors Hüseyin Yılmaz and Fırat Durak, and council members Yavuz Çiftçioğlu and Mehmet Nuri Kara, were among 35 people arrested on June 23. Following the arrest, the Ministry of Interior suspended Akpolat from duty, and this morning the Adalar Municipal Council held an election for the acting mayor.
MEDINE PAMUK BECAME ACTING MAYOR
In the election held at the Buyukada Sehit Murat Yuksel Primary School Neriman Erduman Conference Hall, Republican People's Party candidate Medine Pamuk and AK Party candidate Kemal Turkyilmaz competed. A total of 7 council members voted. In the first round, Pamuk received 5 votes, Turkyilmaz 1, with 1 invalid vote; in the second round, Pamuk 5, Turkyilmaz 2; in the third round, Pamuk 5, Turkyilmaz 2, but the required majority was not reached, and the election proceeded to a fourth round.
In the final round, CHP candidate Medine Pamuk received 5 votes and was elected Acting Mayor of Adalar Municipality.
WHO IS MEDINE PAMUK?
Born in 1959 in the Elif district of Sivas, Medine Pamuk moved to Buyukada from Istanbul in 1961 due to her father's work and began living there. She completed her primary and secondary education at Buyukada Primary and Secondary School, and high school at Huseyin Rahmi Gulpinar High School.
Residing in Burgazada since 1982, Pamuk served in the CHP district administration for two terms, and from 2020 onwards, she held the position of Women's Branch President at the CHP Adalar District Presidency.
Medine Pamuk became the Acting Mayor of Adalar Municipality following the election held after Mayor Ali Ercan Akpolat's arrest in a bribery investigation.
Medine Pamuk is married and has two children.
