President's Chief Advisor Mehmet Uçum stated that there is no need for a constitutional amendment for Erdoğan to run again. Uçum mentioned that if the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) renews the elections with 360 votes, Erdoğan could run for office one last time according to the current constitution.
President's Chief Advisor Mehmet Uçum made a striking statement on his social media account regarding President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's candidacy for re-election. Uçum expressed that there is already a possibility for such a candidacy within the framework of the current constitution, countering the frequently discussed claims in the public that "a constitutional amendment is required for re-candidacy."
"FOR PRESIDENT ERDOĞAN TO BE A CANDIDATE..." In his post, Uçum stated: "'The lie that a new constitution is needed to open the way for President Erdoğan's candidacy in the upcoming general elections' will continue to be reminded until it is abandoned. There is no need for a new constitution or to change the existing constitution for President Erdoğan to run again."
President's Chief Advisor Mehmet Uçum HE POINTED OUT TWO DATES FOR EARLY ELECTION In his statement, Uçum, who focused on the exceptional situation of the Turkish Grand National Assembly's decision to renew elections, noted that this scenario offers President Erdoğan the opportunity to run again within the framework of the current constitution, stating, "This exceptional candidacy opportunity comes into play with the decision of the Turkish Grand National Assembly to renew elections a certain period before the general elections scheduled for May 7, 2028. For example, if the Turkish Grand National Assembly decides to renew elections with the votes of at least 360 members of parliament in the last quarter of 2027 or at the beginning of 2028, and if President Erdoğan prefers, he will run for the last time," he added.
