Meta's Explanation of Narin! Uncle Salim Güran's deleted WhatsApp messages were requested.

The investigation into the murder of Narin, whose lifeless body was found 19 days after she went missing, continues in full depth. In the investigation, Salim Güran, the village headman and confessing suspect Nevzat Bahtiyar, are in custody, while Narin's mother, father, two brothers, and four uncles, including 22 people, are under arrest. If the WhatsApp conversations of the suspects and the detained uncle Salim Güran are deciphered, it will reveal who and how Narin was killed.

PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE OPENED 'TÜLİN' FILE

The prosecutors of the Narin case have also opened the file regarding the death of Tülin Güran, the disabled sister who was previously reported to have passed away. The prosecutor's office wrote a letter to Diyarbakır Children's Hospital, requesting all information, documents, and files related to Tülin Güran's death.

IMAM WHOSE STATEMENT WAS TAKEN WAS RELEASED

The imam of Tavşantepe Village, R.K., and the second wife of Hüseyin Güran, a great uncle, a 40-year-old woman, were detained yesterday evening. A search operation was initiated for 8-year-old Narin Güran, who went missing on August 21 in Tavşantepe neighborhood of Bağlar district in Diyarbakır. S.G., the village headman of Tavşantepe neighborhood and also Narin Güran's uncle, who was taken into custody as part of the investigation conducted by Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, was arrested by the duty magistrate on September 2.

UNCLE'S DELETED WHATSAPP RECORDS REQUESTED FROM META

It was determined that the detained uncle Salim Güran deleted all his WhatsApp conversations. Turkey contacted META for the deleted records.

"WHATSAPP DOES NOT BACK UP CONVERSATIONS"

Speaking to DW Türkçe, Meta Communications Director Joshua Breckman said, "The allegations do not reflect the truth. WhatsApp does not back up individuals' personal conversations. Therefore, it is also not possible for us to refuse to provide something we do not have."

"WE CANNOT ACCESS MESSAGES"

Regarding whether it is possible to recover deleted messages by the police or other individuals, Breckman explained that "if they are not backed up, it is not possible to recover deleted messages." Furthermore, according to the company, chat history is not stored on Meta servers, so it is also not possible for the company to restore backed up messages. Backed up WhatsApp messages are saved to Google Drive or iCloud. According to Meta, if the "end-to-end encryption" feature is not disabled, Google or Apple cannot read the content of the messages.
