Mexico has initiated the process of deploying additional troops to the border following the United States' decision to suspend customs duties imposed on this country for one month in exchange for increased border security. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that members of the National Guard and the army have begun to be stationed at the border. Sheinbaum stated that the National Guard members, who are serving in areas where security issues are not as problematic, are being sent to the U.S. border, emphasizing that this situation will not leave the rest of the country insecure.
STATEMENT FROM THE MEXICAN ARMY
In a statement regarding the matter, the Mexican army said, "This personnel will reinforce the troops already stationed at the border to stop the flow of fentanyl, other drugs, illegal immigration to the U.S., and to prevent the entry of firearms from here."
