The debt dispute in Antalya ended in bloodshed. The suspect who shot the businessman with a shotgun said, "I wanted to scare him," while the victim stated that he was shot with threatening words, saying, "I think I also heard the voice saying 'my father's regards' at the moment of the incident. I am filing a complaint."
Businessman Hasan Doğan (57), who was shot by İlyas Çapkan (35) with a shotgun due to a debt dispute in the Kepez district of Antalya, said, “I stopped in front of a construction site while driving on the road, and as I was going towards my vehicle after looking at an apartment, İlyas shot me. I felt a warmth in my groin. He said, ‘This is a lesson for you, Hasan Doğan.’ I think I also heard the voice saying, ‘My father sends his regards.’ I am filing a complaint," he said. The detained defendant Çapkan stated, “I just wanted to scare him. I wish it hadn’t happened, Uncle Hasan, I am very sorry," he said.
The incident occurred on October 10 last year at 18:00 in 3047 Street, Fabrikalar Neighborhood, Kepez district. İlyas Çapkan arrived at the street where Hasan Doğan’s house is located, with whom he had a feud due to a debt dispute, by car. Çapkan fired a shot with the shotgun he brought with him. Doğan, who was shot in the groin, collapsed to the ground. Upon notification, police and medical teams were dispatched to the scene. Police teams closed the street with a security cordon and conducted an investigation. Injured Hasan Doğan was taken to the hospital by ambulance by 112 Emergency Health teams. While the treatment of the injured Doğan continued in intensive care, İlyas Çapkan was caught. After his procedures at the police station, Çapkan was arrested by the duty magistrate he was brought before.
DEFENDANTS IN FRONT OF THE JUDGE A lawsuit was filed against the detained İlyas Çapkan for ‘Attempted murder with intent’ and against the defendants Siraç Ç. and Enes Ç. for ‘Instigation’ without detention. The defendants appeared before the judge for the first time at the Antalya 6th High Criminal Court. In his first defense, İlyas Çapkan stated that there was a debt issue between him and Hasan Doğan, saying, “My father, my siblings, and I work as laborers in the construction sector. My brother was previously involved in a fight that also included the complainant Hasan Doğan and was shot and disabled in this incident. We have not received any compensation from Hasan Doğan regarding my brother’s injury. We had a debt from Hasan Doğan, and although he said he would pay for a long time, he was not making payments. I had about 400 thousand lira in receivables. However, he was constantly making small payments like 1000 lira, as if giving us pocket money, saying, ‘Come and take it if you can.’ We are working people, and our house is rented. We were experiencing financial difficulties," he said.
"I ACTED TO SCARE" Çapkan, who stated that he did not have the intent to kill, said, “Hasan Doğan and my grandfather lived in the same neighborhood. On the day of the incident, I had bought a car for myself and went to the scene to kiss my grandfather’s hand before going to my hometown. At that moment, I saw Hasan Doğan’s vehicle. I had a shotgun with me. My aim was to scare him. When I saw the gun in my hand, I said to him, ‘Why aren’t you giving us our money, we did your work.’ He replied, ‘What money, you scoundrel.’ When I saw him reaching for his waist, I thought he would harm me, and in fear, I fired the gun. I acted only to scare him. Also, after firing, I did not say to him, ‘My father sends his regards.’ My father and brother have no knowledge of the incident. I do not accept the accusations against me and request my acquittal," he said.
"HE USED THE GUN WITHOUT OUR KNOWLEDGE" Defendant Siraç Ç. stated that he was unaware of the incident, saying, “I was working at the time of the incident. We were informed about the incident by the police. After that, we went home. Later, İlyas came home. I was very angry with him and asked why he did such a thing. I kicked İlyas out of the house with the gun he had. Before the incident, my sons were working as laborers at the construction of Hasan Doğan’s villa in Çakırlar. Also, I later learned that my son Selman Ç. was shot in the foot during a fight involving Hasan Doğan. After my son was injured, Hasan Doğan gave us a vehicle, saying we might need it. The shotgun used in the incident was also in that vehicle. The mentioned shotgun does not belong to us. I was thinking of taking the gun and putting it in the storage. However, I later learned that İlyas took the gun without our knowledge and used it," he stated.
"I RETURNED THE INSULTS THEY GAVE ME" Enes Ç., stating that they did not instigate his brother İlyas, said, “We had a debt of 400 thousand lira from Hasan Doğan for the work we did. He only paid us 50 thousand lira. While we were working, my brother Selman was shot in the foot during a fight involving the complainant’s son. On the day of the incident, I was working with my father. The police called and explained the incident to us. We had no knowledge of the incident said to have been carried out by my brother İlyas. If we had known, I would not have allowed it. After the incident, a friend from the neighborhood told me that Hasan Doğan was filming and insulting us. He insulted our family. I also spoke with Hasan’s son. We exchanged insults over the phone. They called me to the hospital, but I did not go. I returned the insults they gave me. While we were working with Hasan Doğan’s son, they didn’t even pay our insurance. We had also made a complaint about this. I do not accept the accusations," he said.
AFTER SHOOTING, HE SAID, ‘THIS IS A LESSON FOR YOU’ Complainant Hasan Doğan stated that the defendants’ statements do not reflect the truth, saying, “I have been involved in construction for 6 years. There is no villa as the defendants said. It was a prefabricated house job. If an expert goes, he will see that it is not a job that requires a large payment. Selman was shot in the foot during an incident involving my son. In response, we fulfilled all our humanitarian duties. I sent all hospital expenses and allowances. If I am lying, may God punish me. In response to this incident, relatives came to my shop and asked for an apartment and 2 million lira from me. I had no knowledge that the defendants worked with my son. My son has psychological issues. I had previously told them, ‘Do not work with my son.’ I did not give them the money they wanted. After that, we did not meet again. On the day of the incident, I got into the car with my children and my wife. While driving on the road, I stopped in front of a construction site, and as I was going towards my vehicle after looking at an apartment, İlyas shot me. I felt a warmth in my groin. He said, ‘This is a lesson for you, Hasan Doğan.’ I think I also heard the voice saying, ‘My father sends his regards.’ I am filing a complaint," he said.
REMOVED THE LICENSE PLATE AND FLED After the statements in the courtroom, security camera recordings of the attack were shown. The footage shows İlyas Çapkan removing the license plates of his vehicle after carrying out the attack and fleeing the scene. After the footage was shown, the defendant İlyas Çapkan, who was given the right to speak, said, “I wish it hadn’t happened, Uncle Hasan. I am very sorry. I apologize to you," he said.
The court board decided to continue the detention of the defendant İlyas Çapkan and postponed the hearing.
