Middle East expert Yeniacun evaluated the second Trump term for Haberler.com: Will a new agreement process begin in the Middle East?

In the studio of Haberler.com, Dr. Alihan Limoncuoğlu and Fatih Fuat Tuncer presented the "AltıYedi" program, Dr. Selim Han Yeniacun from the Middle East Studies Institute of Marmara University was a guest.

Donald Trump won the presidential elections held in the USA on November 5. Trump's second presidential term will officially begin when he takes the oath in Congress on January 20, 2025. After his election victory, Trump addressed his supporters, stating, "We received support from every Asian, African, Arab, and Muslim American. There was no war during my four years of presidency. I will not start wars; I will stop wars. This is also a great victory for democracy and freedom." Dr. Selim Han Yeniacun evaluated how Trump could proceed to end the war.

"TRUMP CAN PROMISE THIS: HEZBOLLAH SHOULD WITHDRAW FROM LEBANON"

Yeniacun stated that Trump would not start from a process that is already interrupted or in front of everyone's eyes, like the Abraham Accords, saying, "I think he will start by pointing to an issue that will allow the US to regain some level of trust. And that is Lebanon."

Expressing that there is a situation of ungovernability within Lebanon, as well as a grassroots and public movement still existing, Yeniacun said, "There is a disruption of supply lines to Lebanon provided by Iran from Syria. Trump can promise this; he can convince all Middle Eastern states, including Iran. Hezbollah should withdraw from Lebanon, my brother. Let's re-establish a stable government framework in Lebanon. Are there Hezbollah members? Yes. They will return to the movement they came from. They will return to the Amal movement. The Amal movement will continue its existence in the parliament. It will continue from where it left off in 1989."

"HE CAN FIRST SOLVE LEBANON"

Yeniacun emphasized that Trump could first solve Lebanon, using the following statements:

"The Gulf capital that has been eliminated along with Hezbollah and its armed power, the support of America has already been directed to Lebanon, and there were already funds released by the Biden administration through Iran. These will continue. Iran will experience some financial relief. He can first solve Lebanon. I mean, solving Lebanon is much easier. Then he can create a more stable framework for the Palestinian issue through a stable Lebanon. What that framework will be, I do not know, but realistically, there is a Lebanon that he can solve. Considering that his son-in-law is also from Lebanon."
