Younger individuals who wish to complete their military service as paid soldiers have long been advocating for the 'Barrack-free paid military service' demand. In a statement regarding the issue, Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler stated that they cannot accept such a thing, effectively closing the door on the discussions. "CAN WE ACCEPT SUCH A THING?"In statements made to Kübra Par on TV100 screens, Minister Güler emphasized that while many countries in Europe have abandoned compulsory military service, they have returned to it due to the Russia-Ukraine war, saying, "We do not have such an agenda. I do not consider it possible. While many countries in Europe have abandoned compulsory military service, they are returning to it after witnessing the Ukraine-Russia war. While these things are happening there, can we accept something like barrack-free military service?" ON THE AGENDA OF YOUNG PEOPLE FOR A LONG TIMEYounger individuals, who have been demanding that barrack-free paid military service be legalized as soon as possible, have long wanted their voices to be heard. Young people, who frequently express their demands for the removal of the barrack condition for paid military service in order to avoid job loss and to support family members in need of care, state that the 'Barrack-free paid military service' practice would also contribute to the economy and expect support from all political parties on this issue. Recently, the DEVA Party took an important step by supporting the demands of young people and bringing the issue to the agenda of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). A BILL HAS BEEN SUBMITTEDMehmet Emin Ekmen, Deputy Chairman of the DEVA Party, submitted a bill to the Presidency of the TBMM regarding the removal of the 28-day barrack service, stating: "The proposal to remove the barrack service in paid military service will minimize the negative effects on the work and social lives of the conscripts and will also help the state avoid unnecessary expenditures."
