Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan made the anticipated statement regarding the minimum pension after the Cabinet Meeting. Işıkhan announced that the exact figure will be determined on July 3, stating that the decision will be announced to the public through the Parliament. Following Minister Işıkhan's remarks, attention turned to the possible raise scenarios being considered by the government. The current minimum pension, set at 20,000 lira, is expected to be increased to approximately 23,500 lira under the new regulation.

Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan answered journalists' questions following the Cabinet Meeting. Speaking about one of the hottest topics on the agenda, the "minimum pension," Işıkhan pointed to the June inflation data to be announced by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) for the finalization of raise rates.

"THE FIGURE WILL BE ANNOUNCED IN PARLIAMENT WHEN IT IS DETERMINED"

Minister Işıkhan emphasized that the picture will become clear with the inflation data to be announced on July 3, and referred to the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) for the legal regulation aspect of the issue. Işıkhan made the following statements regarding the process:

"When the inflation rate is announced on July 3, a figure will emerge. When the figure is determined, the necessary explanation on the subject will be made in the Turkish Grand National Assembly. Hopefully, it will be beneficial."

WHAT ARE THE RAISE EXPECTATIONS OF ECONOMISTS?

The data to be announced by TÜİK on Friday, July 3, will not only determine the base of the minimum pension but also finalize the increase rates for civil servants, retirees, and social assistance payments.

The raise table expected by market experts and economists is projected as follows:

  • SSK and Bağ-Kur Retirees: 17.81 percent
  • Civil Servants and Civil Servant Retirees: 13.56 percent

Following the announcement of the inflation data, the amount of increase in the minimum pension limit, along with the raise on base salaries, will be shared with the public after the discussions in Parliament.

FIRST FIGURE FROM EXPERTS FOR THE MINIMUM PENSION

Economist Muhammet Bayram stated that if the June inflation data aligns with expectations, the 6-month inflation difference for SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees could be around 18 percent, and if the minimum pension is increased by this rate, it could rise to approximately 23,600 lira.
