Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç visited the sales store of the Prison and Detention Houses Employment Institution in Kızılay, Ankara. While shopping in the store with citizens, Tunç received feedback about the products and wished the employees ease in their work. Citizens who saw Tunç shopping alongside them experienced a brief moment of surprise but expressed their satisfaction with the quality of the products.
Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç visited the sales store of the Penal Institutions and Detention Houses Employment Institution located in Kızılay, Ankara. Minister Tunç, who shopped with citizens in the store, wished the employees ease.
HE TALKED WITH CITIZENS
During the visit, Minister Tunç chatted with citizens and received feedback about the products sold in the store. Citizens who were shopping expressed their satisfaction with the quality and affordable prices of the products, stating that they were pleased to shop at the Employment Institution stores.
"THE AIM IS TO REINTEGRATE INMATES INTO SOCIETY"
Minister Tunç, who made statements regarding the training and production activities of the Employment Institutions, stated that vocational training is provided to inmates and detainees at these points, and production is also carried out. Tunç mentioned that the products produced in the workshops and facilities of penal institutions are offered to the public in sales stores and at fairs held in various provinces of Turkey.
THEY CAN ESTABLISH THEIR OWN BUSINESSES AFTER RELEASE
Emphasizing that inmates and detainees can practice the professions they learned in the Employment Institutions workshops by establishing their own businesses after their release, Tunç used the following expressions:
"Today, we visited our Employment Institution Sales Store in Kızılay. Many products, from food to clothing, from shoes to souvenirs, are offered to our citizens at quality and affordable prices. Our aim is to ensure the rehabilitation of inmates and detainees within the criminal justice system and to reintegrate them into society."
CONTRIBUTION TO BOTH THE ECONOMY AND SOCIETY
Stating that inmates and detainees work voluntarily in the facilities and workshops of the Employment Institutions, Minister Tunç expressed that they contribute to both their own economy and the national economy during this process. Tunç mentioned that inmates who gain professions are reintegrated into society by practicing these professions after their sentences are completed.
OVER 200 OCCUPATIONS IN MORE THAN 3,000 WORKSHOPS
Minister Tunç stated that production is carried out in more than 3,000 workshops and factories across Turkey in over 200 occupations, saying, "Our primary aim is to contribute to criminal justice, protect society from crime, and strengthen social peace. We also bring the products that emerge during the production process to our citizens at quality and affordable prices."
There are 378 Employment Institution Directorates operating to prepare inmates for life after their sentences in Penal and Execution Institutions. Every year, an average of 70,000 inmates and detainees work in more than 3,000 workshops and facilities that operate like factories. Products produced in over 200 occupations, ranging from furniture to textiles, metalworking to food, and from agriculture and livestock to cosmetics, are offered to the public in 97 sales stores across Turkey.
