Figen İşleten, whose house became unusable, stated that they were outside during the fire and came to the area after being informed by their neighbors. İşleten, who has lived in the area for 5 years, said, "It was a lush, very beautiful place. I was taking care of three street dogs. Our own dog, our chicks, our chickens, they all burned. All our belongings in the house were burned."
"WELDING WAS DONE IN 40 DEGREE HEAT"
İşleten, who pointed out that the fire broke out due to the renovation, said: "The person I am most angry with is the one who was welding in 40-degree heat yesterday. This was our living space; we have nowhere else to go. Our whole life turned upside down. I thought I would continue here when I retired. It took me years to make this place what it was, and now I am at zero. It was lush here; when you looked at it, your energy changed. I was shocked to see it like this; I stayed in the ambulance for a while. I am very sad for the living beings here, for my efforts, and for not being able to live here anymore. Our lives are gone because of those people's thoughtless actions."
"THERE WAS AN EXPLOSION, EVERYTHING BURNED"
Yeter Bengiç, a resident of the area, also recounted that she was very scared when she saw the flames. She expressed that she immediately informed her husband when she saw the smoke, saying, "We looked out the window running. The gendarmerie said, 'Get out, evacuate the house. You will get poisoned.' We took our car and left. Our animals were left inside. We watched what was happening from across the street. Thank God nothing happened, but the flames were very bad. Some houses burned completely. There were 3-4 explosions. We don't know if it was a transformer or a gas cylinder that exploded, but we were very scared. Everything burned. My husband has heart issues, and I am diabetic; we were very scared. We experienced something that had never happened to us before."
GREEN AREA TURNED BLACK
The areas damaged in the fire were captured by drone footage. The images showed the forested area turning black due to the flames, as well as the houses and vehicles that were damaged in the fire. The teams from the İzmir Regional Directorate of Forestry continue their work in the area.
WHAT HAPPENED?
