MLS: 18 Players Test Positive For COVID-19

6 club staffers from US football league also contract coronavirus.

US football league Major League Soccer announced that a total of 18 players and six club staffers have tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of an upcoming tournament.

"As of Sunday, 18 MLS players and six club staff received positive Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) tests prior to travel to Orlando for the MLS is Back Tournament. A total of 668 players have been tested since early June," it said in a statement.

The MLS will return to action from July 8, nearly four months after it was suspended due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

America's top football division will resume with a special MLS is Back Tournament with 26 teams divided into six groups in Eastern and Western conferences. -
