In Istanbul, 30 people have died in the last 72 hours due to counterfeit alcohol, and there are concerns about the rising death toll. While the police are trying to control the situation through surveillance footage, it has emerged that one of the deceased individuals was seen purchasing the counterfeit alcohol from a kiosk.
83 people applied to various hospitals in the city due to reasons related to the consumption of counterfeit alcohol in Istanbul. While 30 of the patients who experienced methanol poisoning lost their lives, 4 individuals who completed their treatment were discharged. The treatment of 31 people continues in intensive care, while 18 others are being treated in the normal ward.
SECURITY CAMERA FOOTAGE RELEASED
The moments when the person who died from poisoning by counterfeit alcohol purchased the drink from a shop in the Nişanca neighborhood were captured by security cameras.
SHOP OPERATORS DETAINED
In the footage, it can be seen that Yıldız Turtyeva entered the shop, took alcohol from the shop, and then left. Meanwhile, in an operation against those producing counterfeit alcohol, Mehmet K. and Aydın A., who operated the shop, were detained. The suspects were arrested and sent to prison after their procedures at the police station and their transfer to the courthouse.
