A mother who fled with her disabled daughter's fiancé in the Develi district of Kayseri has been sentenced to 3 years, 7 months, and 15 days in prison for threats and injury. The detained fiancé was also given a prison sentence of 3 years and 3 months for the same offenses.
A woman who ran away with her disabled daughter’s fiancé in the Develi district of Kayseri was sentenced to 3 years, 7 months, and 15 days in prison for "threat" and "injury" offenses, while the groom candidate received a prison sentence of 3 years and 3 months for the same offenses.
MOTHER-IN-LAW AND GROOM IN FRONT OF THE JUDGE
In the hearing held at the Develi 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance, the complainants D.Ş. (25) and her father T.Ş. (52) were present along with their lawyers. The defendants Güldane Ş. (46) and Cuma D. (21) participated in the hearing via the Audio and Visual Information System from the prison where they were held.
DISABLED GIRL FORGAVE HER MOTHER, FILED A COMPLAINT AGAINST HER FIANCÉ
In their defense, the defendants Güldane Ş. and Cuma D. admitted to having a romantic relationship but denied the accusations. The victim D.Ş. stated in her testimony that she got engaged to Cuma D. last year. She claimed that Cuma D. had always beaten and threatened her, while she expressed that the defendant's mother, Güldane Ş., did not apply violence to her. D.Ş. stated that she had no knowledge of the theft allegation and mentioned that she was complaining about Cuma D. but not about her mother.
GROOM ACCUSED OF "1 MILLION LIRA THEFT"
The complainant T.Ş. alleged that the two defendants who ran away together stole 14 full gold coins, 1 bracelet, 19,500 dollars, and 35,000 lira from his house. T.Ş. claimed that the total value of these items was 1 million 226 thousand 900 lira and stated that his loss had not been compensated, expressing that he was complaining about the defendants.
The prosecutor requested the punishment of both defendants for the crimes specified in the indictment in his opinion on the merits of the case. When asked for their final words by the presiding judge, the defendants claimed their innocence and requested their acquittal and release.
MOTHER-IN-LAW AND GROOM SENTENCED TO PRISON
The court judge sentenced the defendant Güldane Ş. to 2 years and 6 months in prison for "threat with multiple persons" and 13 months and 15 days for "qualified simple injury," while the defendant Cuma D. received 2 years and 6 months for "threat with multiple persons" and 9 months for "qualified simple injury."
The court decided to acquit both defendants of the "theft" charge due to insufficient evidence and ruled for their continued detention.
WHAT HAPPENED?
The images of the mother Güldane Ş. who ran away with her disabled daughter D.Ş.'s fiancé Cuma D. shared on social media and television channels, along with the allegations and complaints, led to the suspects being detained in Istanbul and subsequently arrested. The case was sent to the Develi Chief Public Prosecutor's Office with a decision of lack of jurisdiction.
