Mustafa Yeneroğlu, a member of the DEVA Party from Istanbul, announced that he has resigned from his party. In a statement he made on his social media account, Yeneroğlu said that he submitted his resignation decision to the party's General Chairman Ali Babacan on December 2 and also conveyed it to the Presidency of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) on December 26. In his post, Yeneroğlu expressed that his party failed to achieve the political communication it aimed for, which led to a departure from the claims made at its establishment. "I WILL NOT GIVE UP ON THE IDEAL OF DEMOCRACY AND THE RULE OF LAW"Emphasizing the goals of liberal democracy and the rule of law stated in the founding program of the DEVA Party, Yeneroğlu mentioned that the party's inability to establish effective communication with society, its failure to institutionalize, and its inability to produce the targeted political discourse have led to a departure from these ideals. "THE PARTY HAS ENTERED AN UNACCEPTABLE PERIOD OF INERTIA"Referring to the results of the 2023 General Elections and the 2024 Local Elections, Yeneroğlu stated that after the DEVA Party received a vote rate of 0.41% in March 2024, it entered "an unacceptable period of inertia." He noted that this process has led to deepening problems within the party. "I FORGIVE MY RIGHTS"Yeneroğlu, who asked for forgiveness from his colleagues and all party members, stated that despite his resignation, he will continue to contribute to Turkey's struggle for democracy, law, and welfare.
