Naci Görür: The probability of an earthquake occurring in Istanbul at any moment is 47%.

As the expected major Marmara earthquake's footsteps begin to be heard in Turkey, a country prone to earthquakes, experts continue to issue warnings every day. A frightening warning regarding a possible Istanbul earthquake has come from the famous geologist Prof. Dr. Naci Görür.

"THERE IS A 47% CHANCE OF AN EARTHQUAKE OF 7.5 MAGNITUDE IN ISTANBUL AT ANY MOMENT"

Speaking on the program of Ezgi Gözeger on Now TV, Naci Görür stated that he expects a 7.5 magnitude earthquake in the Marmara region. Görür said, "The probability of an earthquake of around 7.5 magnitude is very high. There is a 47% chance that it could happen at any moment since 1999. This is a very high probability. The likelihood of an earthquake occurring these days is significant. It directly arises from historical earthquakes and periodic calculations."

"YOU CANNOT FIGHT WHAT YOU DO NOT KNOW"

Reminding that 25 years have passed since the Marmara Earthquake, the geologist stated, "Although some things have been done, I do not think we are prepared. Our people do not behave and act in a manner befitting themselves, rather than forgetting. We do not want to attribute bad things to the people of our own country, but this cannot be achieved with such rhetoric. Our people do not walk in the light of science. They are not adequately grasping scientific issues. They are spending time with some unscientific beliefs. There are people who say that an earthquake occurs with the shaking of an ox's head. This is happening today. They do not know what an earthquake is. You cannot fight something you do not know."

"ALL OF TURKEY WILL COLLAPSE ON ITS KNEES"

Emphasizing that building earthquake-resistant cities is not as difficult as it is thought to be, Görür said, "Establish a ministry. Give a budget that is a little more than what you give to other ministries. Let it be a state ministry, and let it not change according to politics or parties. It should be a ministry designed to prepare Turkey for earthquakes. It should start preparing the entire country for earthquakes with qualified personnel. Your economy, trade, and factories are in Istanbul. All of Turkey will collapse on its knees. Then this country will have neither economic nor political independence. The words of our esteemed President: Those who borrow, take orders. Even now, we read that we cannot find proper money. When that earthquake happens, how will we find the money for that destruction? What concessions will we make to obtain it?" he stated.
