Nasdaq Close At Record High For 5Th Straight Day

Tech heavy index posts weekly gain of 3%

The Nasdaq closed Friday at a new record-high level for the fifth consecutive trading day.

The tech-heavy index added 21 points, or 0.12%, to end the day at 17,688 and posted a weekly gain of 3%.

The S&P 500, on the other hand, fell 2.14 points, or 0.04%, to finish the session at 5,431; and its four-day winning streak has come to an end.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average, meanwhile, lost almost 58 points, or 0.15%, to end the week at 38,589, marking its fourth consecutive daily loss.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, jumped 6.1% to 12.67. The 10-year US Treasury yield fell 0.6% to 4.215%.

The dollar index rose 0.3% to 105.51, while the euro shed 0.28% to $1.0705 against the greenback.

Precious metals were in the green, with gold rising 1.2% to $2,331 per ounce and silver increasing 2% to $29.56.

Oil prices were down around 0.2%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $82.55 and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $78.40. -
