With the approach of Ramadan, dried okra has taken its place among the essentials of iftar tables. Local okra is sold for 3,000 TL, while imported okra is priced at 2,500-2,600 TL. Shopkeepers stated that higher prices were expected, but the situation has been suppressed by the imported okra.
With the approach of Ramadan, okra, which is among the essentials of iftar tables, has also found its place in the markets.
IT IS ALSO ATTRACTING ATTENTION WITH ITS PRICE
The price of dried local okra is being offered for sale at 3,000 TL per kilogram, while imported okra is sold between 2,500 and 2,600 TL.
"IT WAS EXPECTED TO RISE TO AROUND 4,500 TL"
Stating that the importance of okra becomes more pronounced during Ramadan, tradesman Arif Cankı said, "With the arrival of Ramadan, the importance of okra is further highlighted. Because one of the beauties of our Ramadan tables in our culture is the okra dish and soup. Generally, we do not like large okra. The okra we call flower okra is found on our tables. The price of our okra is currently 3,000 TL. Two months ago, it was around 2,500 TL, and the prices have increased. In fact, it could have risen even more, but with the entry of imports into the market, the price has been somewhat suppressed. This honestly made us happy. Because it is accessible. Otherwise, it was expected to rise to around 4,000-4,500 TL," he said.
"WHEN SALES INCREASE SUDDENLY, THERE IS A CONCERN THAT IMPORTS CANNOT KEEP UP, AND PRICES CAN RISE"
Cankı stated that imported okra has been suppressing prices, saying, "Imported okra is currently suppressing this price increase. The price of imported okra is sold for around 2,500-2,600 TL per kilogram. Of course, our familiar flavor is Amasya flower okra. We want our citizens to complete these kinds of Ramadan preparations before the month of Ramadan arrives. Because when there is a sudden increase in sales, there is a concern that imports cannot keep up, and prices can rise. Therefore, we want them to buy these flavors for their tables before Ramadan arrives and keep them at home," he expressed.
