Former Deputy General Manager of Ziraat Bank and Head of International Finance and Banking Department at Başkent University, Prof. Dr. Şenol Babuşcu, brought up an interesting claim on his social media account. NEW DRAFT CLAIM MAKES WAVESBabuşcu stated that the Ministry of Treasury and Finance is preparing a new draft regulation, claiming that the use of a bank or credit card will be mandatory for payments of 7,000 TL and above. PENALTY FOR SPECIAL IRREGULARITIES CAN BE APPLIEDThe draft regulation is said to require non-taxpayers to comply with this obligation for purchases over 7,000 TL, otherwise a penalty for special irregularities will be applied. Babuşcu's post is as follows: "If this draft regulation becomes a notification; from now on, whoever it may be, will have to make payments of 7,000.00 TL and above through a bank or credit card. As seen in the example, Mr. A, who works as a civil servant in a public institution, will have to make the payment for the 20,000 TL refrigerator he bought for his home through a bank or credit card. Mr. B, who works as an academician in a public institution, will have to make the payment for the 10,000 TL book he bought for his library at home through a bank or credit card. Before this draft, if both parties were taxpayers, purchases over 7,000 TL had to be made with a bank or credit card. If this draft is published and becomes a notification, non-taxpayers will also have to use a bank or credit card for purchases over 7,000 TL, otherwise they will be subject to a penalty for special irregularities."
