Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced that they are working on an application called "Necessary Action" to prevent fights in traffic. Yerlikaya stated that citizens can upload videos of attacks to the application, and these videos will be considered as reports. He said, "We will take the necessary action... Both the perpetrator and everyone watching that screen will see it."
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, in a special broadcast by AA, evaluated the draft law on amendments to the Highway Traffic Law, which includes regulations aimed at increasing traffic fines, and answered questions.
MINISTRY'S "NECESSARY ACTION TAKEN" APPLICATION
Minister Yerlikaya stated that they are working on a new mobile application to prevent the recent increase in fights in traffic. He mentioned that the name of the application is "Necessary Action Taken" and shared the details.
YERLİKAYA: TRADESPEOPLE WILL TAKE A PICTURE OF WHAT THEY SEE AND SEND IT, WE WILL TAKE NECESSARY ACTION
Yerlikaya reminded that since he took office, they have shared the work they have done regarding the issues brought to them by citizens through social media under the title "Necessary Action Taken." He stated that they inform citizens in this way, saying, "When we do this, we want to create an environment where such mistakes are less likely to occur, a more peaceful environment. Our application has two sections related to public order and traffic... A tradesperson will take a picture of what they see and send it to us. We will take the necessary action... Both that person and everyone watching that screen will see it." he said.
"EVERY TIME WE HESITATE, IT MEANS LOSS OF LIFE"
Emphasizing that traffic safety is one of the most important parts of transportation and life, Yerlikaya said, "Cities have grown now. I mean, we have urban life over 90%. Yes, our roads are good, our facilities are good. But we have no time to hesitate regarding the rules. Every time we hesitate about having deterrent rules, it means loss of life." he stated.
Minister Yerlikaya reported that they have strengthened inspections throughout 2024 and reduced the rate of illegal use of emergency lights by 86% in 9 months with deterrent penalties.
"NO ONE WILL EVEN THINK ABOUT ILLEGAL USE OF EMERGENCY LIGHTS"
Yerlikaya stated that they have increased inspections related to illegal use of emergency lights by 350% from November 30, 2024, saying, "The number of people subjected to legal action has decreased from 8,000 to 1,320, an 86% reduction. In other words, this issue will completely end, and no one will even think about it." he said.
Yerlikaya noted that no one lost their life due to red light violations last year, and he added: "I sincerely believe that we will succeed in traffic safety by talking, responding to each other with patience and understanding. Let me say something to our media, for the last 3-4 days, they have been talking about the numbers. You are giving the numbers, but they are not mentioning the accidents at the moment. Right now, only numbers are being discussed. Believe me, the issue is not the numbers. As in the case of emergency lights, one person received 274,000 lira, the second person did not. This issue is over. We want to end the others as well. Like the countries that have succeeded in this, let’s make it a matter of culture, conscience, and rights of others. To achieve this, a lot depends on conventional media, you, friends who strive on social media, and all of us. Let’s look at it from this perspective."
