The leader of the CHP, Özgür Özel, claimed that the government is planning a 20% increase for the minimum wage in 2026. Özel stated that this rate would raise the minimum wage to 26,000 lira.
The discussions regarding the minimum wage increase for the year 2026 have once again risen to the top of the agenda with the beginning of October. Due to fluctuations in economic indicators and a high inflation environment, millions of workers are focused on the wage increase that will take place at the end of the year.
20% ESTIMATE FOR MINIMUM WAGE
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel claimed in a statement during his party's meeting that the government is preparing to increase the minimum wage by 20%. Özel stated that with this calculation, the minimum wage would rise to 26,000 lira, saying, "They intend to increase the minimum wage by 20% without any shame. They are determined to set the minimum wage at 26,000 lira and keep it that way for a year."
"IT IS NO LONGER POSSIBLE TO CARRY THIS BURDEN ON CITIZENS"
Özel also referred to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's recent statement, "Our per capita national income has risen to 17,000 dollars," criticizing, "On one hand, they talk about high growth, while on the other hand, only a 20% increase is foreseen for workers. It is no longer possible to carry this burden on citizens."
