The 34-year-old forward stated in an interview with the Brazilian press, "I don't know what the future will bring me. I might want to retire in December. I live day by day. This year is very important not only for Santos but also for the Brazilian National Team," he expressed.
Neymar, who has struggled with injuries in recent years while wearing the Santos jersey, mentioned that he underwent knee surgery in December 2025. The star footballer said he preferred to rest in some matches to return 100% fit this season.
"I wanted to return to help my team, but in the end, I preferred to rest myself to be able to step onto the field 100% ready, pain-free, and in the best shape," he said.
THE GOAL IS THE WORLD CUP
Neymar, who extended his contract with Santos until the end of 2026, announced that he aims for the World Cup championship by returning to the Brazilian National Team.
With 79 goals, Neymar is the highest-scoring player in Brazilian history and stated that they will face Morocco, Haiti, and Scotland in Group C of the 2026 World Cup.
