Roads turned into lakes in many areas, especially Queens and Brooklyn, vehicles were submerged, and there were significant disruptions to subway and bus services. Authorities reported that approximately 5 centimeters of rain fell in some areas within an hour.
GOT OFF THE BUS, PLANS RUINED
In footage circulating on social media, a woman trying to escape the floodwaters was seen getting off a bus but soon becoming stranded in knee-deep water. The moments when she struggled to walk were recorded by nearby citizens with their cell phone cameras.
The video quickly went viral, once again highlighting the scale of the flooding disaster in New York.
VEHICLES SUBMERGED, SUBWAYS STOPPED
According to reports in the foreign press, some drivers waited on top of their vehicles to be rescued. Due to the floods, several underpasses were closed, and services on the F and J subway lines were suspended. Numerous roads across the city were closed to traffic due to flooding.
New York Emergency Management teams warned residents not to enter floodwaters, and people, especially those in low-lying areas, were urged to move to higher ground.
