Nine people were detained during a protest at the TRT World Forum.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was protested during his speech at the opening of the TRT World Forum 2024, held under the theme "A World at a Turning Point: Managing Crises and Transformations." Erdoğan responded to the protesters, who claimed that Turkey was trading with Israel, saying, "My child, do not be the tongue and mouth of the Zionists here. No matter how much you try to provoke this place by being the tongue, mouth, and eye of the Zionists, you will not succeed. The Zionists in the world know very well where Tayyip Erdoğan stands. But you still haven't understood."

9 PEOPLE DETAINED

A total of 9 people were detained, including two individuals who carried out the protest during Erdoğan's speech, two others who were allegedly preparing for the protest, and five people who were chanting slogans in front of the congress center. It was learned that the detention period of the protesters taken to the Istanbul Police Department was extended by one day.

STATEMENT FROM THE POLICE DEPARTMENT

The Istanbul Police Department also made a statement regarding the issue. The statement said, "Necessary security measures have been taken by the Istanbul Police Department regarding the TRT World Forum 2024 program held on November 29, 2024, at the Istanbul Congress Center in the Şişli district. The program started at 14:00 with the participation of our esteemed President, and at 15:30, individuals named Ş.Y. and E.T., who protested by opening banners and shouting inside the meeting hall, were intervened, along with individuals G.E. and M.Ö., who were determined to be preparing to chant slogans. Around 16:00, when a group that gathered for protest purposes in front of the Istanbul Congress Center began to chant slogans, despite warnings that their actions were illegal and that they should disperse, individuals M.S.E., F.M.E., F.D.G., C.A., and C.U. were also detained for continuing to chant slogans. Investigations related to the matter are ongoing."
