Sibel Baykara, who couldn't afford to pay the rent in Antalya, started living on the streets after being evicted from her home. Baykara, who is looking for a rental apartment, said, "Landlords who hear that I am separated from my husband and living with my children don't want to give me a place to live because I can't pay the rent. My only solution now is to find a civil servant guarantor."
Sibel Baykara (39), who was evicted from her home in Antalya because she couldn't pay the rent for 3 months and started staying in the garden of an apartment building, has been searching for a new apartment to live in for the past 15 days.
Sibel Baykara, a textile worker living in Etiler neighborhood of Muratpaşa district, moved to the 2nd floor of Aksoy Apartment last February. Living with her two children after separating from her husband, Baykara paid a rent of 7,500 Turkish liras to the property owner, which increased to 8,750 Turkish liras after one year. Baykara, who fell ill 3 months ago and couldn't work during the treatment process, couldn't pay her rent during this time. The landlord called the tenant and told her to evacuate the house as soon as possible.
HER BELONGINGS WERE STACKED IN THE GARDEN OF THE APARTMENT BUILDING
Ignoring Baykara's explanation that she couldn't pay the rent because she couldn't work and that she would make a lump sum payment as soon as possible, the landlord initiated the eviction process. 15 days ago, enforcement officers came to the house, took the belongings out and completely emptied the house. Sibel Baykara, who is staying on the streets with her two children, stacked her belongings in the garden of the apartment building she previously lived in and sleeps on the couch at night. Baykara, who sent her children to their father, is supported by her neighbors.
Baykara, who said that she goes to the nearby mosque's toilet for her bathroom needs and that her neighbors support her with meals and other necessities, has been searching for a house by going from street to street for the past 15 days. Baykara, who couldn't get any results from the conversations with the landlords or real estate agents of the rental houses, said that she was asked for a civil servant guarantor.
"THE LANDLORDS DON'T WANT TO GIVE ME A HOME WHEN THEY HEAR THAT I LIVE ALONE WITH MY CHILDREN"
Sibel Baykara said, "When the landlords hear that I live alone with my children after separating from my husband, they don't want to give me a home because I can't pay the rent. My only solution now is to find a civil servant guarantor. I think I need to find a civil servant guarantor to get off the streets." Bahar Yalçın, a neighbor who doesn't leave Baykara alone, said that she waits by her side until late at night. Yalçın, who said that she does her best to support Baykara, said, "We can't leave her alone. The neighborhood is a bit troublesome. We stay with her until midnight, sometimes until morning."
