Galatasaray's head coach Okan Buruk reacted to Fenerbahçe's head coach Jose Mourinho during a live broadcast. Speaking about the Portuguese coach, Okan Buruk said, "He has been crying all season, and it still continues. He insulted me, and I responded. His behavior is far below his career level."
Galatasaray's head coach Okan Buruk participated in a live broadcast on Ekol TV and made statements. The experienced coach reacted to Fenerbahçe's head coach Jose Mourinho.
'IF I REACTED, THE SITUATION WOULD HAVE ESCALATED' Referring to the tension between him and Jose Mourinho, Okan Buruk said, "I said back then, I should not exaggerate it too much. He reacted. After the match, we entered the field to celebrate. I was going towards the referees, and he was also coming towards the referees. I wanted to applaud the referees and tell them they managed the match well. I said it in Turkish, then I said it in English. At that moment, he reacted to that. When I wanted him to hear that I congratulated the referees, he reacted. Other than that, I didn't say anything directly to him. I wasn't expecting such a reaction. When I turned my back, there was a hand gesture. I thought that if I stood up or reacted, the ugly situation would escalate further," he said.
'IF I DID SOMETHING, THEY WOULD HAVE GIVEN ME A 13-MATCH BAN' Continuing his remarks, the successful coach stated that he would receive a 13-match ban if he did something and criticized the TFF. Okan Buruk said, "If I reacted, if I reacted to him, if I did the opposite, I would have received at least a 10-match ban! I am the only coach who has received a disciplinary penalty without any disciplinary action. I received a one-match ban just because I didn't like the foreign referee in the derby. If I did something there, they would have given Mourinho 3 matches and me 13 matches! I was supposed to be in charge of my team. He reacted. I didn't want to prolong it too much, thinking he would receive the necessary penalty. If I had done something, I could have received a very severe penalty." he expressed.
Buruk, who stated that he did not file a lawsuit against Mourinho, said, "The person who commits violence should be criticized. How can you apply violence to a person? You have no right to do that. They said I should file a lawsuit, but I said there is no need. What that person did is wrong, and everyone should report this wrong." he stated.
'IF YOU INSULT ME, I WILL CALL YOU CRYING ONE' Okan Buruk spoke about calling Mourinho "Crying One," saying, "There is an insult there as well. He finds this power within himself, and no one says anything. If you insult me there, I will call you Crying One. He cried all season! He is still crying. He is a very important coach with a strong background, but the behavior he is showing here is far below his coaching career. Everyone needs to accept this, and he needs to accept it too. How long will he make excuses? You have to look at it objectively." he commented.
Finally, the experienced coach said, "Mourinho insults the whole country. He finds this power within himself. No one can do anything to him. If you call me 'monkey,' I will call you 'Crying One.' Because he cried all season." he concluded.
