After Kremlin spokesman Dmitriy Peskov stated that they were evaluating Istanbul for a new round of negotiations with Ukraine, a new statement came from Russia. The head of the Russian Negotiation Team, Vladimir Medinski, said, "We have proposed a specific date and location for the second round of talks with Ukraine. We suggested meeting in Istanbul on June 2. We are expecting a response as soon as possible."
The hope for the end of the war has increased with the peace negotiations held in Istanbul between Russia and Ukraine. While it is unknown when the next round of talks between the two countries will take place, a new statement has come from Russia.
RUSSIA'S "LET'S MEET IN ISTANBUL" PROPOSAL TO UKRAINE
Vladimir Medinski, the head of the Russian Negotiation Delegation, stated, "We have proposed a specific date and place for the second round of talks with Ukraine. We suggested a meeting in Istanbul on June 2. We are waiting for a response as soon as possible." The response from Ukraine has become a matter of curiosity.
PEACE SUMMIT IN ISTANBUL AFTER PUTIN'S CALL
The historical summit was initiated by Russian President Vladimir Putin on May 11. Putin had suggested the unconditional resumption of direct negotiations, which had been halted three years ago, on May 15 in Istanbul, requesting President Erdoğan to host the meeting.
ZELENSKY ARRIVED, PUTIN SENT A DELEGATION
Following Putin's call, Trump also urged Zelensky to attend the meeting. The Ukrainian administration responded positively to the call. While Zelensky complied with the call and came to Istanbul, Putin did not come to Turkey for the meeting but sent a delegation instead. Zelensky left Turkey after Putin's absence.
DELEGATIONS MET
Meetings had taken place between the delegations. In the trilateral meetings held under Turkey's auspices, namely Turkey-US-Ukraine and Turkey-Russia-Ukraine, an agreement had been reached on the exchange of prisoners between Russia and Ukraine.
DECISION ON EXCHANGE WAS MADE
Speaking after the peace talks in Istanbul, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov stated, "We have agreed on the exchange of 1000 prisoners of war with Russia." The Russian delegation stated, "We are satisfied with the talks. Russia and Ukraine will present their detailed views on a possible ceasefire, and then negotiations will continue."
