After the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad in Syria, regime soldiers who fled hastily to the Rutba district of Iraq have started to be repatriated to their country. Images of the soldiers on their way back home, being sent by bus, have been released.
The Ba'ath regime in Syria was overthrown within 12 days without any conflict, following an operation launched by armed opposition groups on Wednesday, November 27. While Bashar al-Assad fled to Russia, many regime soldiers escaped to neighboring countries.
IRAQ IS RETURNING SYRIAN SOLDIERS
Approximately 2,100 soldiers belonging to the Syrian army sought refuge in the Rutba district of Anbar province in Iraq. While the soldiers were placed at Marsanat Airport, located 70 kilometers from Rutba, the Iraqi government made a notable decision. According to breaking news reported by Reuters, Iraq has started to send back Assad regime soldiers who sought refuge in their country to Syria.

Syrian soldiers were loaded onto numerous buses and sent back. Footage of the soldiers' return journey was released. The images showed many buses traveling along the road.
