While discussions about early elections continue, CHP leader Özgür Özel made a statement regarding candidacy at a forum held in a hotel in Istanbul. Stating that the AK Party has a candidate problem, Özel expressed that they have also moved past the discussions about presidential candidacy within the party. "THE AK PARTY HAS A CANDIDATE PROBLEM"CHP leader Özel noted that if there are no early elections, President Erdoğan will not be able to run again. Özel stated, "Then he is not a candidate," and mentioned that the AK Party has a candidate problem. Özel continued his remarks: "Is it the current Minister of Interior, or the previous one? Is it the current MIT President, or the previous one? Or which of the current sons-in-law? While these questions remain, involving the hardworking, powerful, and highly successful mayors of the Republican People's Party in the candidacy discussions, creating a dual debate, and making internal party agendas is solely a matter that benefits the Palace and its supporter Devlet Bahçeli." 'WE HAVE PUT CANDIDACY DISCUSSIONS ASIDE'Özel, who stated, "We have put candidacy discussions aside within the party," added, "My call to the opposition is to learn from the mistakes of the last time and to stand together with a culture of coexistence without experiencing the disarray desired by the government. It is essential for all democrats of this country and all representatives in the political arena to collectively take ownership of the future of this country."
