The Minister of National Education, Yusuf Tekin, visited historical sites in Erzurum and met with teachers. During the trip, Tekin answered journalists' questions and made statements about the book fees of private schools, which can reach up to 60,000 TL per year. The Minister emphasized that necessary penalties have been imposed on 400 schools that have increased their fees by over 300%. "APPROXIMATELY 400 SCHOOLS HAVE INCREASED THEIR FEES BY OVER 300%"Minister Tekin stated, "Schools can provide their own books to students, but they need to enter these books into the system. For example, if a school sold books for 20,000 TL this year, they need to enter it into the system so that we can track the price increase they will make next year. However, some schools are accepting fees through wire transfer or similar methods. These are crimes. We say that next year, the inflation rate plus five percent is the maximum price they can charge. We consider those who exceed this rate as charging exorbitant prices. Currently, there are approximately 400 schools that have increased their fees by over 300%, and we have immediately imposed the necessary penalties on them." CANCELLATION OF QUESTIONS IN LGSTekin also made a statement regarding the question that was canceled in the High School Transition Exam (LGS) by the court, announcing that approximately 10,000 students were affected by this situation. Minister Tekin said, "The administrative court canceled this question on September 11, 100 days later. If I appeal and it results in my favor, then the students will be victimized again. Therefore, we will refrain from appealing now. Approximately 10,000 students are affected by this situation, but it will be determined by September 21 how many of these students will exercise their rights. Therefore, to prevent any victimization, we said 'Students whose scores are recalculated can be placed in their higher preference regardless of the quota limit.' We also considered those whose scores no longer match the school they registered as acquired rights. We told them 'You can continue in your current schools.'" PENALTY OF GHOST CLASSES FOR 500 SCHOOLSTekin stated that approximately 500 schools were penalized last year due to ghost classes and said, "If such structures exist, we will impose the necessary penalties again." Minister Tekin said, "A significant number of students who finish high school switch to open high schools and attend underground courses for university entrance exams. As soon as we took office, we closed this door. For example, if a child says in the 9th grade 'I will go to an open high school,' we don't interfere. But if they enroll in a science high school in the 9th grade and prevent another child from being placed there, and then in the 12th grade they say 'I'm going to an open high school,' we can no longer accept students through transfer. Then ghost classes emerged. We impose severe sanctions on ghost high schools."
