YSK'S "UNSTOPPABLE" DECISION
The 45th Civil Court of First Instance had requested the suspension of the Istanbul 39th Ordinary Provincial Congress from the Supreme Election Council (YSK). The request was sent to the Istanbul Governorship and the Sarıyer 1st District Election Board. YSK Deputy Chairman Ekrem Özübek stated that the Sarıyer 1st District Election Board had requested the YSK's opinion on whether the congress would take place, and he said, "In the meeting held upon this request, it was decided that the congress processes that had already started in accordance with the procedure could not be suspended by the district election boards, and we respectfully announce this to the public."
In response to a question, Özübek stated, "A decision has been made to continue the congress. WHAT HAPPENED?
Özgür Çelik was elected as the president at the Istanbul Provincial Congress of the CHP held on October 8, 2023. After the congress, allegations of "manipulation in the voting" emerged.
The Istanbul 45th Civil Court of First Instance had decided in September 2025 to temporarily suspend the president and management elected at the congress and to appoint a temporary board of directors to the provincial presidency.
With the court decision, Gürsel Tekin was appointed as the trustee of the provincial presidency. The CHP management decided to convene the Istanbul Provincial Congress extraordinarily on September 24, and Özgür Çelik was re-elected as president.
