The President of the Turkish Bakers Federation, Halil İbrahim Balcı, announced that the price of bread will not exceed 75 lira per kilogram and that this price will be maintained until the end of the year. Balcı also stated that they will take measures against bread waste.

Halil İbrahim Balcı, President of the Turkish Bakers Federation, stated that they have been working to ensure that the price of bread, which has been sold for 62.5 lira so far, will not exceed 75 lira per kilogram across the country, saying, "Therefore, we can say that there will be no bread price exceeding 75 lira in any part of Turkey."

Balcı, who is also the Vice President of the Turkish Confederation of Tradesmen and Craftsmen (TESK), reminded at a press conference held at the Kocaeli Union of Tradesmen and Craftsmen that the price of bread per kilogram was implemented at a maximum of 62.5 lira nationwide at the beginning of the year.

BREAD PRICE SET AT 15 LIRA

Balcı reported that 200 grams of bread is sold for 12.5 lira and 240 grams of bread for a maximum of 15 lira across the country, and considering the increase in the items affecting the cost of bread during this period, as well as the purchasing power of the public, they have determined the price of bread per kilogram as 75 lira with a 20% price increase.

PRICE INCREASE WILL BE 20%

Balcı stated that they sent a circular to their chambers to ensure that the price of bread per kilogram does not exceed 75 lira in any province, and he noted:

"As of August 1, in many provinces, 200 grams of bread will be sold for 15 lira or, depending on the consumption habits of our citizens in different regions, 270 grams of bread will be sold for 20 lira, but the sales will be made at a price of 75 lira per kilogram and below. As of today, primarily in Ankara, Istanbul, Kocaeli, Bursa, Izmir, and other provinces, most of the 200 grams of bread is sold for 15 lira. Other provinces have also made their applications to the relevant institutions by calculating costs in this regard. This practice will continue in the coming days."

Emphasizing that they will show sensitivity in determining the price of bread, which is a staple food for the public, just as they have until now, Balcı said, "Unfortunately, some media outlets reported yesterday that 'bread prices have increased by 25%.' The price increase will not be 25%, but will be 20%. We will try to maintain this price increase for as long as we can, just as we have done before. Our goal is to maintain this 75 lira without a price increase until the new minimum wage is determined in January, and to sustain it with a 20% increase."
