İBB President Ekrem İmamoğlu protested the arrest of CHP Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer for 'membership in a terrorist organization' and reacted with strong statements. President Erdoğan filed a lawsuit for 1 million lira in moral damages against İmamoğlu, claiming that he made false accusations containing slander against him based on those statements.

ERDOĞAN'S LAWYER SUBMITTED THE LAWSUIT TO THE COURT

In the lawsuit submitted to the Istanbul Anatolian Court of First Instance by President Erdoğan's lawyer Ahmet Özel, it was stated that Esenyurt Mayor Özer was arrested for the crime of "being a member of the PKK/KCK armed terrorist organization."

In the petition, it was reported that İBB President İmamoğlu used false accusations containing slander against Erdoğan during a rally held on October 31 to protest Özer's arrest, and it emphasized that İmamoğlu acted with the intention of humiliating the President in public.

"THE GOVERNMENT CHASING A DARK MOVE WITH A CLUB IN HAND"

The petition stated that İmamoğlu's statements about Erdoğan, including "a government chasing a dark move with a club in hand," exceeded their purpose, not only damaging President Erdoğan's reputation but also inciting the public to hatred and distorting the truth. The relevant part of İmamoğlu's speech and a video recording of this section were included.

The petition noted that İmamoğlu's statements tarnished President Erdoğan's honor and reputation in the eyes of society, and it recorded the following:

"With the accusations he made, he has tried to make my client a target in the eyes of the public. It is evident that my client, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has been a president who has been working selflessly since the day he took office through democratic elections he has won one after another, and who is supported with great love and admiration by the public. The defendant has made heavy insults with numerous unfounded concrete allegations such as 'Do you have your club of blackmail that says if you don't elect me, I won't let your elected ones serve? I will throw them in jail. I will make your life miserable. Do you have your threat club that says I will leave you homeless and your children unemployed?' Throughout his speech, he has implied that we are facing a government chasing another dark move. They declared us terrorists and arrested us on fabricated grounds, and entrusted Esenyurt to a trustee.'

"MALICIOUS PERCEPTION OPERATION"

The petition stated that İmamoğlu's statements towards the President were inconsistent with his political duty and constituted a malicious perception operation, and included the following statements:

"It seems that İmamoğlu could not accept the successes my client has achieved in the elections held for years, as he has tried to create the perception that my client is 'armed with a club' in the elections in the public eye. The statements he has used, almost disregarding this segment, contradict the perception that 'he embraces all segments of the public.' His irrational and humiliating statements aim to incite the audience he addresses."

1 MILLION LIRA IN MORAL DAMAGES

In the petition, it was requested that the lawsuit be accepted for the stated reasons, and that 1 million lira in moral damages be compensated with legal interest starting from the date of the incident, October 31, 2024, and that the litigation costs and attorney's fees be borne by the opposing party.
