Uncertainty continues regarding the efforts to increase the minimum retirement pension, it has been learned that President Erdogan has intervened. It has been revealed that Erdogan instructed his aides before his visit to the US, saying, "Work on the issue of increasing pensions. Finish this job by the time I return to Turkey from the NATO Summit." Erdogan is expected to return to the country today. WORK ACCELERATEDAccording to the information obtained, the economic advisors of the AK Party came together at the beginning of the week to discuss the available options. When nothing clear came out of the meeting, the advisors gathered for a second time. Since a clear formula could not be put forward in the meetings, the work was accelerated upon the instruction of President Erdogan. ALL FORMULAS ARE BEING EVALUATEDIn the meetings, it was stated that increasing the base pension would be in favor of retirees, but this formula would mean narrowing the gap between the salaries of those who pay the lowest premiums and those who pay high premiums, which could lead to injustice among retirees. Instead, the idea of giving a flat increase to all retirees was discussed. However, this formula was not favored due to the additional burden it would bring to the Treasury. TO BE RAPIDLY PASSED IN PARLIAMENTAccording to the news in Türkiye newspaper; If the work is presented in a way that includes all retirees, a single amendment would be sufficient, and the amendment proposal could be quickly passed in parliament by being added to the omnibus bill. It is expected that after the cabinet meeting next week, the work will be completed and announced by Erdogan himself. Despite the 24.73% increase to be made to SSI and Bağ-Kur retirees this month, the pensions of 1.7 million retirees remain at 10,000 liras due to their low base pensions. Economic advisors are considering all alternatives and conducting impact analyses. A fair system is prioritized in the work.
