Talking about what he experienced before the Cyprus Peace Operation, Ersin Tatar said, "The Turkish Cypriots paid a heavy price, they sacrificed martyrs. We faced terrorism where people were shot just because they were Turkish."

Tatar, while describing those times, used the phrase "I couldn't experience my childhood. Everything on an island at war is dependent on the outside.
