President's Chief Advisor Mehmet Uçum stated, "It appears that street calls and incitements to illegal actions are being made to suppress the correct procedures. For this reason, they do not pursue legal avenues or do not want to wait for them to operate. However, the State will never allow such illegal and illegitimate pressures and chaos politics, and it will give the necessary lesson to those who attempt to do so."

President's Chief Advisor Mehmet Uçum made a statement regarding the developments following the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.

"THE STATE WILL NEVER ALLOW ILLEGAL AND UNLAWFUL COERCION AND CHAOS POLITICS"

Referring to the street call made by CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, Uçum stated, "They are not operating through legal means or do not want to wait for it to operate. At least, this is the impression that has emerged. They are trying to achieve results through illegal coercion. But it should be known that the State will never allow such illegal and unlawful coercion and chaos politics, and will give the necessary lesson to those who attempt it," he said.

Uçum, who shared on social media with the title "The requirement of the rule of law and the duty of the judiciary," noted the following:

"LINKING INVESTIGATIONS TO OUR PRESIDENT IS BOTH IMPUDENCE AND A DISREGARD FOR THE CONSTITUTION"

"The provision in the Constitution stating 'The Republic of Turkey is a state of law' is regulated as an unchangeable norm. Furthermore, according to the Constitution, 'Judicial authority is exercised by independent and impartial courts on behalf of the Turkish Nation.' Linking the opened investigations to our President is both impudence and a disregard for the Constitution. What is happening is a requirement of the rule of law and the duty of the judiciary to perform its function.

"AS IF THE NORMALITY OF THE SITUATION WAS THIS"

According to criminal procedure law, in the case of an accusation of a crime; simple suspicion is sufficient to open an investigation, sufficient suspicion is enough to prepare an indictment, and strong suspicion, along with other conditions, is sufficient to apply a detention measure. Since 2019, many unlawful actions, irregularities, and corruption allegations have emerged regarding the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. These had become ordinary events that everyone talked about. It seemed as if the normality of the situation was this. Even events like money towers and open cooperation with terrorist organizations were seen as ordinary issues.

Response from President's Chief Advisor Uçum to the street call: The State will give the necessary lesson
President's Chief Advisor Mehmet Uçum

"IT IS UNTHINKABLE FOR A STATE OF LAW TO REMAIN INDIFFERENT TO SUCH A GRAVE PICTURE"

It is absolutely unthinkable for a state of law to remain indifferent to such a grave picture. Forget about simple or sufficient suspicion; strong suspicion was very evident. Of course, investigations would be opened, and the necessary measures required by the investigations would be taken. Given this situation, reacting to the opening of an investigation is, in the simplest terms, opposing the rule of law. The correct and reasonable attitude here is to demand that investigations be conducted in accordance with the law and with respect for the rights of the suspects. It is seen that the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and the judicial police under the prosecutor's command are conducting a very meticulous and careful investigation. Additionally, the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is also very diligent in informing the public.

"THE ISTANBUL CHIEF PUBLIC PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE DID WHAT THE STATE OF LAW REQUIRES"

In an environment where the allegations have become apparent, and everyone has seen and heard the unlawful relationships and events, if these investigations had not been initiated, it would have been said that there was a weakness in the state of law. By initiating the investigations, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office fulfilled the requirements of the state of law and performed its duty. The claim that these investigations are being conducted for political motives is completely unfounded; it is clear that this is put forward to overshadow the unlawful actions and events that raise strong suspicion. Istanbul is the apple of Turkey's eye. Of course, the opening of investigations related to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality may have social and political consequences. It is the political institution that will evaluate these consequences. No one has the right to impose social and political responsibility on the judiciary. No one has the right to say 'why did you open an investigation' or 'do not open an investigation' because of the social and political consequences. The burden of politics cannot be placed on the judiciary. The judiciary only fulfills the requirements and duties of being a state of law. Nothing else can be expected from the judiciary. You cannot threaten the judiciary. You cannot be an enemy of the judiciary. You cannot confront the state.

"CRITICISM CAN ALSO BE MADE REGARDING JUDICIAL PROCESSES"

Of course, criticism can also be made regarding judicial processes. Evaluations can also be made regarding the social and political consequences of judicial processes. But when one goes beyond these limits, they step outside the law, and those who do so must bear the consequences. While there are legitimate ways to seek rights within the law, the right to criticize, and opportunities to express oneself, leaning towards chaos politics puts one in an anti-state position. What needs to be done is to operate the law regarding both diploma cancellations and investigations and to use the legal avenues for seeking rights. Ultimately, with finalized judicial decisions, the material truth will emerge completely in all matters.

"THEY ARE TRYING TO ACHIEVE RESULTS THROUGH ILLEGAL COERCION"

Resorting to unlawful and illegal means instead of legitimate and legal ones shows that those who do this do not believe they are justified in the diploma issue or in the investigations. It is understood that street calls and incitements to illegal actions are made to suppress the correct actions. For this reason, they are not operating through legal means or do not want to wait for it to operate. At least, this is the impression that has emerged. They are trying to achieve results through illegal coercion. But it should be known that the State will never allow such illegal and unlawful coercion and chaos politics, and will give the necessary lesson to those who attempt it."
