In Berlin, the capital of Germany, more than 100,000 people marched to protest Israel's attacks on Palestinian territories. The police intervened in the mass demonstration.
As the world reacted strongly to Israel's attacks on Gaza, a mass march was organized in Berlin, the capital of Germany.
100,000 PEOPLE MARCH
Under the joint organization of approximately 50 organizations, a march was held with the theme "All eyes on Gaza" to protest Israel's attacks on Palestinian territories. Timo Dorsch, spokesperson for Medico International, stated in an interview with the German media that more than 100,000 people participated in the march.
More than 100,000 people gathered in front of the State Chancellery and marched through the Federal Assembly to Grosser Stern Square, one of Berlin's symbols.
THEY DEMANDED AN END TO ARMS TRADE
The protesters demanded that Germany immediately halt arms exports to Israel, ensure humanitarian access to Gaza, and that the European Union (EU) impose sanctions on Israel. During the march, slogans such as "Freedom for Palestine," "Long live Palestine," and "Israel bombs, Germany finances" were chanted, and banners reading "Stop the massacre in Gaza," "No to genocide," and "Stop Israel" were displayed.
"THEY ARE COMPLICIT IN CRIMES"
Ines Schwerdtner, co-chair of the Left Party, pointed out the genocide committed by Israel in Gaza and the complicity of the German government in her speech before the march, stating, "The Chancellor and ministers talk but do not take action. While hospitals are turning to rubble, they speak of state intelligence. They remain silent on genocide and are complicit in crimes."
HARSH POLICE INTERVENTION
On the other hand, the demonstrators were warned not to display symbols of banned organizations and not to chant slogans that would lead to police intervention. Many people were detained during the protest march, which saw a harsh police intervention. There was a backlash against the police's severe response.
