Journalist Özlem Gürses, who was detained on the charge of "publicly disseminating misleading information" due to her statements about the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) on her social media channel, has been referred to the court with a request for arrest.

Journalist Özlem Gürses was detained as part of an investigation initiated ex officio for the crime of "publicly disseminating misleading information" due to her statements about the Turkish Armed Forces on her social media channel. After her procedures at the police station, Gürses was taken for a health check and then referred to the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan. Gürses was referred with a request for arrest.

HOUSE ARREST DECISION MADE

A judicial control decision was made for Özlem Gürses, who completed her interrogation at the Peace Criminal Court, including house arrest and a travel ban abroad.

WHAT HAPPENED?

An ex officio investigation was initiated against Gürses for the crime of "publicly disseminating misleading information" on the grounds that she described the TSK as an occupying institution that acts together with terrorist organizations involved in torture and massacres, due to her statement in a YouTube broadcast: "As you can see, the structure of ISIS, that is, the TSK-SMO structure has made small gains in the regions where the Kurds are." Gürses, who was detained in Ankara, was brought to Istanbul.
