Joseph Kent, Director of the U.S. National Counterterrorism Center, resigned, citing his opposition to the ongoing war in Iran.
IMPORTANT NAME IN U.S. INTELLIGENCE RESIGNS
The first resignation news due to the Iran war has come from the U.S. National Intelligence Counterterrorism Director Joseph Kent, who stated that he could not support attacks on Iran.
"IRAN IS NOT A NEAR THREAT TO THE U.S."
In his resignation statement, Kent addressed Trump, saying, "I cannot morally support the ongoing war in Iran." Kent argued that Iran does not pose a near threat to the U.S. and claimed that the conflict was initiated under external pressures.
Kent, a veteran who has participated in combat missions 11 times, described himself as a "Gold Star husband" and referred to his personal loss, stating that he lost his wife in a previous war. In his letter, Kent wrote: "I cannot support sending the next generation to fight and die in a war that offers no benefit to the American people and does not justify the cost of American lives."
"WE CANNOT MAKE THIS MISTAKE AGAIN"
Additionally, Kent criticized Israeli officials and some American media figures, accusing them of misleading the administration and linking the situation to the Iraq War: "The same tactics used by the Israelis to draw our nation into that disaster, the Iraq War, which cost the lives of our best thousands of men and women. We cannot make this mistake again."
Addressing President Donald Trump directly, Kent called on him to change course. Kent wrote, "You can reverse the course and chart a new path for our nation, or you can allow us to descend further into retreat and chaos. The cards are in your hands."
