Vatan Party Chairman Doğu Perinçek's statement regarding those who lost their lives on July 2 in Sivas has sparked controversy.

RESPONSE FROM BBP

A response came from the Great Unity Party regarding Perinçek's remarks. BBP Secretary General Ahmet Yelis stated, "We watched in astonishment as Doğu Perinçek attempted to associate our party with the Madımak Hotel fire, one of the most tragic events in our Republic's history, which occurred on July 2, 1993, and saddened us all."

"THE INCIDENT HAS REVEALED ITSELF IN ALL CLARITY"

Yelis also used the following expressions: "The Great Unity Party, which was established just 6 months before the tragedy, and its Founding General Chairman Martyr Muhsin Yazıcıoğlu's name can only be associated with the efforts to prevent the events and the rescue of those trapped in the hotel.

Let us reiterate, a significant portion of those trapped in the hotel (36 people) were rescued by members of the Great Unity Party and were hosted at the BBP Sivas Provincial Headquarters until the security forces could establish control.

Everyone who witnessed the events, especially the victims, has revealed this situation in all clarity over the past 30 years.

"WE CONDEMN"

Furthermore, there is not a single member of the Great Unity Party among those prosecuted or convicted in relation to the matter.

The Great Unity Party is not the material for the reckoning among the members of marginal criminal organizations responsible for the murder of countless citizens, including Turkish nationalists, who have collaborated with numerous foreign intelligence agencies, terrorist organizations, and terrorist acts to colonize Turkey in the past.

Although these facts are known by everyone, we condemn the association of our party's name with this heinous incident with a great slander, reserving our legal rights."
